Frequently asked questions
Therapy can be a very daunting prospect and seeking to talk with a stranger can be an overwhelming and weird concept. The other side of it is that it provides anonymity and an outlet to voice concerns whilst being heard. Therapy relies heavily on the relationship between the client and therapist, developing this relationship will come with time and usually after three sessions anxiety will dissipate and comfort will develop, aiding the relationship and the work.
Counselling is a very individual process when it comes to timing and sessions. Some clients will prefer to focus on deep rooted issues and can work extensively with a therapist over many months whilst other clients will prefer to focus on more day to day issues and can feel satisfaction with their work from six to eight sessions.
Therapy works best on a weekly basis when the client makes a concerted effort throughout the week outside of the therapeutic space. However, life and the impracticalities it throws at us can impact weekly sessions. So if it is truly a barrier, bi-weekly sessions are still quite beneficial. As clients move through the therapeutic process, an easing of the amount of sessions and regularity can occur.
A session will last for 50 minutes in total.
This is a very common thought most clients will have. Once the information gathering stage is completed sessions normally flow naturally where a preparation of material beforehand isn't necessary. A lot of the issues we have can be clouded in our heads and a therapist is there to help guide a conversation and perhaps help the exploration of thoughts and feelings.
If you’re unable to attend a session, you must cancel at least 24 hours in advance. If you cancel with less than 24-hours notice, you will be responsible for the full cost of the session. I understand life can throw a curveball and I am as flexible as possible to accommodate for this.
